The Department of Health is committed to providing necessary health care, including transition-related health services, up to and including surgeries, for eligible Nunavummiut. Transition-related health services is a spectrum of health care ranging from mental health care, hormone therapy, and surgery. Individuals who meet the criteria for transition-related health services are eligible for funded transition-related health services.
Surgery is an option in assisting transitions and alleviating Gender Dysphoria symptoms where they exist. For some clients with Gender Dysphoria, surgery is essential and medically necessary to alleviate their symptoms of Gender Dysphoria. Each individual’s transition is different. There are several different surgeries to assist transitions and clients may choose their preferred option, listed below, to best alleviate their dysphoria:
- Breast augmentation
- Mastectomy with chest contouring
- Hysterectomy
- Oophorectomy
- Orchiectomy
- Metoidioplasty
- Vaginoplasty
- Phalloplasty
Other covered services include, but are not limited to:
- Endocrine (Hormone) therapy
- Mental health services
